Job Summary

The Used Car Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the pre-owned vehicle department, including inventory management, vehicle purchasing, pricing strategies, sales performance, and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in automotive sales management, strong leadership skills, and a passion for delivering outstanding results.


Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Purchasing: Source and purchase quality used vehicles from auctions, trade-ins, and other channels to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Inventory Management: Manage pre-owned vehicle inventory, ensuring appropriate stock levels and a diverse selection to meet customer demand.
  • Appraisals: Conduct accurate vehicle appraisals to establish competitive trade-in values while maximizing profitability.
  • Sales Performance: Drive sales growth by setting objectives, monitoring performance metrics, and implementing effective sales strategies.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by maintaining transparent and ethical sales practices.
  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and mentor the pre-owned sales team to achieve departmental goals.
  • Market Analysis: Stay updated on market trends, pricing fluctuations, and competitive offerings to make informed decisions.
  • Advertising and Promotions: Collaborate with the marketing team to develop advertising and promotional campaigns to attract buyers.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all dealership policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Provide regular performance reports to dealership leadership, including sales, profitability, and inventory metrics.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Used Car Manager, Sales Manager, or a similar role in the automotive industry.
  • Strong understanding of used car purchasing, inventory management, appraisal processes, and pricing strategies.
  • Established relationships with auction houses and other vehicle sourcing channels preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools, inventory management systems, and dealership software.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and market trends to drive business decisions.
  • Strong customer focus with a commitment to providing a high level of service.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
