Key Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnose and Repair Mechanical Issues:

    • Inspect and test vehicles to identify mechanical problems.
    • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot vehicle issues (engine, transmission, suspension, etc.).
    • Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, exhaust systems, and other components.
  2. Electrical and Electronic Systems:

    • Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems (battery, lighting, ignition systems, sensors, etc.).
    • Work with computerized systems, onboard diagnostics, and specialized automotive software to perform tests and repairs.
  3. Routine Maintenance:

    • Perform oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, brake inspections, and other routine maintenance tasks.
    • Replace air filters, spark plugs, and other components as part of preventative maintenance.
  4. Customer Service:

    • Communicate with customers to understand vehicle issues and provide updates on repairs.
    • Offer advice on proper maintenance and vehicle care.
    • Provide video documentation of work being diagnosed and updates on repair progress, keeping customers informed at every stage of the process.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of services performed, parts used, and repairs completed.
    • Provide estimates for repair costs and timelines.
  6. Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety standards, including proper handling of hazardous materials (oil, coolant, etc.).
    • Follow manufacturer guidelines and industry standards for vehicle repair and maintenance.
    • Ensure vehicles are roadworthy and comply with legal safety and emissions requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicle systems.
  • Tools and Equipment: Ability to use diagnostic machines, hand tools, and other repair equipment.
  • Own Tools Requirement: Must possess a full set of automotive repair tools. This includes basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.), power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in diagnosing and repairing vehicle problems accurately.
  • Physical Dexterity: Ability to work with tools and components in tight spaces.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical issues to customers in simple terms.
  • Video Communication Skills: Ability to record and provide video updates to customers to demonstrate diagnostics and progress of work.
  • Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is often required or preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED; formal training from an automotive technology program is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience as an automotive technician or mechanic is highly beneficial.
  • Certifications: ASE certification or manufacturer-specific certifications are often required or encouraged.
Compensation is based on the minimum base pay requirement of $33/hr when equipped with own tools and flag rates that can range from $40-45/hour.
